Jill Wareham Calls For Snow Inquiry

We’re all too well aware of the impact the heavy snow and ice had on the Island last week, with many concerns voiced over the preventative measures taken by the Isle of Wight Council.

Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for the Isle of Wight, Jill Wareham, tells us today that she will be calling for an inquiry at County Hall. “I eventually ventured out to Newport in my car on Friday, three days after the first snow fell, and was amazed to see that the pavements in the main town on the Island had not been cleared and people were walking along very gingerly. ISLE OF WIGHT INSIDER. THE TRUTH ABOUT OUR ECO CONSERVATIVE COUNCIL

He was approached by the Inside Out programme to be interviewed regarding his videos but he turned them down as he wish to remain anonymous due to fears of reprisals by the authorities on the island. Hence he made his own response.

> COUNCIL WORKERS’ INDUSTRIAL ACTION: BACKGROUND (Podcast)

The IW Council want to remove an allowance that is paid to council workers who have to use their cars to carry out their work for the council.

Those affected include staff in children services; social workers; planning department; highways; occupational therapy and education. (more…)

> SOCIAL STAFF TAKE TO THE STREETS IN ALLOWANCE ROW

SOCIAL care staff gathered at County Hall this morning (Tuesday) in a protest over proposed changes to their car allowance scheme.

The changes are set to be implemented by the Isle of Wight Council imminently and some workers have threatened to stop using their cars altogether. About 60 people marched from children’s services to County Hall, where they were joined by Mark Chiverton, Unison branch secretary. (more…)
