BEAUTY spots such as Cheverton and Limerstone downs could become rubbish dumps as the council searches for new landfill sites.

The Island is just five years from filling its landfill sites according to council estimates, leading consultants to suggest Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) should be considered for new facilities. Cheverton Down, where campaigners have battled against plans for a wind farm, has been included on a list of six possible sites recommended by consultants Entec.
